Message from the Provost Welcome to the 2009-2010 academic year. John Jay College has transformed itself over the past five years by adding nearly 200 new full-time faculty; further strengthening our depth of talented scholars and teachers. This academic year promises to be another on the path to excellence, as we build upon what I believe is a remarkably talented group of faculty. With a much expanded faculty, we are now poised to intensify our focus on student success. With particular attention being paid to the classroom setting, we assure that both students and faculty receive the support necessary to insure student success - staying in school and ultimately graduating This year also presents the college with a unique opportunity to build upon our successes of the past five years, by developing the college’s next strategic plan. As Provost, I look forward to the results of this inclusive process that will generate a roadmap for achieving the college’s overall goals. The strategic planning process will establish institutional consensus around many items that are critical to our continued success. The creation of new curricula, designed to enable students to meet the demands of the international workplace, as well as a revision of the general education core, are atop our list of priorities. Our new academic programs and curricula take advantage of our existing cultural diversity, and further provide students with the requisite knowledge and skills to contribute to the larger community. With a renewed focus on student and faculty success, we can collectively realize our goals. Sincerely,

Jane Bowers
