Outreach, Advocacy and Programming:
An integral part of the Women’s Center’s mission involves developing programs to heighten awareness of issues that affect women students. Every semester we sponsor campus-wide workshops on topics like intimate partner violence, how to have satisfying sex, sexual harassment and LGBTQ issues. We participate in national events such as The Clothesline Project and collaborate with academic departments and student groups to sponsor guest speakers and panel discussions. We collaborate with outside organizations and provide students with the opportunity to participate in activism on the community and national levels. We serve the needs of the college by educating students, faculty and staff on topics like gender violence, stalking, rape and sexual assault, eating disorders and sexual harassment.
Opportunities for Male Allies:
Men Can Stop Rape (www.mencanstoprape.org) is proud to be partnering with John Jay College to host a Men Creating Change Chapter on campus. Men Can Stop Rape is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping communities engage men and boys to end violence against women. Men Creating Change is open to all and meets weekly on campus.
