You should have a minimum cumulative undergraduate grade point average of (B) (3.0 on 4.0 scale) to apply for graduate programs at John Jay College; however, there are exceptions for certain degree programs..

The Graduate Record Examination is required for admission to the Forensic Science, Forensic Psychology, Forensic Mental Health Counseling and Forensic Computing Programs.  A minimum score of 1000+ is acceptable.

The GRE is also required for Criminal Justice and International Crime and Justice. The Graduate Admissions Committee will evaluate the GRE scores as one component of the application profile.

Applicants to those programs not requiring the GRE General Test (Public Administration and Protection Management) whose overall undergraduate grade point average falls below 3.0 are strongly encouraged to submit GRE scores as part of their application. In addition to a completed application, the following items must be submitted:

A non-refundable application fee of $125.00 in the form of a check or money order made payable to "John Jay College" (do not send cash) must accompany your application for admission. John Jay College Alumni, who include a copy of their valid alumni card with their application, are waived from the application fee. This courtest is limited to one application fee waiver.

An undergraduate course in statistics is required for all majors except Protection Management. Twelve (12) credits of Psychology as well as an undergraduate course in Experimental Psychology is required for Forensic Psychology and Forensic Mental Health Counseling.  However, applicants without these requirements may be accepted on the condition they register and pass the above mentioned courses within the first year of their program. At least 18 hours of undergraduate work in the social sciences are required for admissions to the MPA Program.

Three academic references or letters of recommendation (if you graduated more than two years ago, professional references are acceptable.)

A personal statement of approximately 200-350 words indicating the reasons for pursuing graduate study with reference to career objective.

Applicants whose first language is not English and, who were educated in a country where English is not the official language, must submit scores for the Test of English as a foreign language (TOEFL). The minimum acceptable score is 550 for the paper-based test, 213 for the computer-based test and 79-80 for the Internet-based test.

Applicants, accepted to their program of choice and who were born after January 1, 1957, must submit proof of immunization for Measles, Mumps and Rubella to the John Jay College Health Office prior to their registration.
