Visiting Student

Questions or comments with respect to the information presented on this webpage should be directed to Christopher Laudando.

John Jay College of Criminal Justice welcomes students from other campuses within the CUNY system, as well as students who are interested in taking classes without pursuing a degree.

There are three possibilities:

1. The E-Permit: Designed for current CUNY students, the E-permit enables you to study on a CUNY campus other than your home campus. Apply for the E-Permit.

2. Non-degree: You can apply to attend John Jay College as a visiting non-degree student. Non-degree students are not entitled to receive any financial aid and pay a higher rate of tuition than degree students. Interested students should complete the Undergraduate Non-Degree Application to qualify. The application fee is $65.

3. Auditing: If you are a New York State resident 60 years of age or older and have completed high school, you may attend John Jay College as an auditor for the undergraduate courses. There is a 2 course limit per semester. Senior Citizen auditors pay $80 per semester and can enroll on a non-credit, space available basis by completing the Undergraduate Non-Degree Application.

The following information is applicable for visiting non-degree and senior audit students only. CUNY E-permit students should refer to the information indicated above.

Undergraduate Non-Degree Application Deadlines
May 21, 2010 for the Summer 2010 semester; August 11, 2010 for the Fall 2010 semester

Students educated outside of the United States CANNOT apply as a non-degree student at John Jay College. (Senior citizens auditing courses must be New York State residents as stated in CUNY's Tuition and Fees Manual as well as provide proof of age (60 or older) by providing a Medicaid Card, driver’s license, birth certificate, or U.S. passport.)

Application
Applications must be submitted to the Undergraduate Admissions Office at 445 W. 59th Street, Room 1100N, New York, NY 10019. Please note that the application will NOT be processed until all supporting documents are submitted:
a. Fee: A non-refundable fee of $65 payable ONLY by check or money order to John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
b. Immunization Records: You must submit proof of immunization for measles, mumps and rubella and complete the meningitis form. YOU CANNOT REGISTER IF YOU DO NOT PROVIDE IMMUNIZATION DOCUMENTS. c. College Transcripts: You must provide all college transcripts (unofficial or official is sufficient). A cumulative GPA calculation will be conducted to ensure that all college transcripts equate to a minimum of a 2.00 GPA.

Registration*
Once your application is processed, you will receive notification as to when you may arrive for registration. Registration must be conducted in person. On the day that you arrive, the Admissions Office will provide you with a referral slip and copies of your transcripts to take to the Registrar’s Office for registration. The following information must be reviewed prior to registration:
a. Pre-Requisite Check: Refer to the Undergraduate Bulletin for course descriptions. Certain courses contain pre-requisites required for each course. You should make sure that you have met all required pre-requisites for the John Jay course(s) that you are seeking to take. All pre-requisites must be fulfilled prior to registration, otherwise you will not be permitted to register for your course(s).
b. Course Selection:
Review the Schedule of Classes and choose the course(s) that you would like to take. Specify the 4-digit registration code for each course.
c. Payment: All payments must be made by the due date or your courses will be canceled. Refer to the Academic Calendar for payment deadlines. Click here for payment options. Payments can only be made online if you are paying by debit or credit card. You must have a CUNY Portal account and pay via eSIMS for online payments. Click here to access the CUNY Portal. If you do not have a CUNY Portal account, you can create one. (Make sure that you create a “student” account.) You can view Portal FAQ’s by visiting here.

*Please note: There is no guarantee that you will be able to register for courses of your choosing. Registration for non-degree students is based on a first come, first served basis. Course priority is given to John Jay College matriculated students. Also, some course sections are limited to special populations of students which may prohibit you from registering for that particular course. Other courses may also require special permission from the department chairperson of the department in which that course is sponsored.
