About John Jay
John Jay College is both an internationally recognized leader in scholarly research on criminal justice and a premier academic institution whose public service mission draws students from around the world. Each of our criminal-justice oriented majors is broadened by a curriculum rich in the liberal arts and taught by experts in their field. A wide range of academic disciplines is examined, and subjects integral to justice, security and the rule of law, explored.
Students and faculty take advantage of our mid-Manhattan location, participating fully in the vibrant urban life outside our doors. The inspiration and stimulation the city offers provides them with exceptional community service opportunities and a deeper understanding of the social contract. In addition to a top-tier education, we help our students plot their course from the theoretical world of academia to the practical job of changing the world.
Undergraduate and graduate coursework is informed by the critical research conducted at John Jay. Queries about the role of the media in criminal justice, prisoner reentry, human rights and terrorism are posed and debated by John Jay’s centers and institutes. These serve to further the scholarly discourse surrounding these complex issues and provide essential information used by academics, policymakers and practitioners.
