The Center for English Language Support (CELS) provides instructional assistance to students whose native language is not English. CELS offers individual tutoring, workshops, and computer resources to help students with academic writing, grammar, and oral presentation skills.

Communication Arts Lab
The Center is available to all John Jay students who are having difficulty with reading comprehension, study skills, and/or time management. The Center is also open to students enrolled in COM 101 and COM 102 who have been referred by a professor or are self-referred. Problems with reading are diagnosed via appointment by a qualified reading laboratory technician.

FYE Extension Programs
The FYE Extension Programs are open to all students who have not passed one or more of the CUNY Assessment Tests.The program provides students with intensive instruction and tutoring in reading, writing, and math for the CUNY Assessment Tests. This program is offered in January and June.

The Math Preparation Center (MPC) offers individualized and small-group tutoring in Mathematics. MPC also offers the Math-Prep Tutoring Program where students may retake the CUNY Assessment Test in Mathematics. Tutoring services are available to students registered in the following: MATH 100, MATH 103, MAT 104, MAT 105, MAT 108, MAT 191, and MAT 192.

Tutoring services are available to all John Jay students currently registered in: MAT 104, 105, 108, 141, 192, 241, 242; BIO 101, 102, 103, 104, 315; CHE 101, 102, 103, 104, 201, 202, 220, 315, 320, 321; NSC 107; PHY 101, 102, 203, 204; TOX 313; and other science courses depending on tutor availability

The Center is open to SEEK students. The SEEK Center provides tutoring in reading, writing, and mathematics, as well as other courses, if needed. The Center also offers a number of workshops to help students strengthen their skills to pass the CUNY Assessment Tests.

The Writing Center provides tutoring and writing consultation to all undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in College. The primary function of the Center is to help student learn to write papers for their courses and strenghten their writing skills. The center offers one-to-one tutoring and many skill and content-oriented workshops, as well as intensive preparation for the CUNY Assessment Test (CAT) in Writing and the CUNY Proficiency Examination (CPE).
