FYE Summer Academy for Incoming Students

Register for the Summer Academy

If you do not pass one or two of the CUNY Assessment Tests on your first try, you are eligible to participate in the Summer Academy program offered by First Year Experience. This tuition-free program provides intensive test preparation and gives you another chance to pass the CAT before the fall semester starts.

Welcome to the FYE Summer Academy. This free intensive program is a great opportunity for new students to get a head start on college education, pass the CUNY Assessment Tests, and meet faculty, staff and other students before the fall semester starts.

Is Summer Academy for me?
If you are an entering student who has been conditionally accepted to John Jay because you have not passed one or two CUNY Assessment Tests, you will be offered a seat in the Summer Academy Program. At the end of the program, you will have another chance to take the test(s).

When is Summer Academy offered?
- Session I (Writing and Math only): May 17–June 3, Early Evening 
- Session II (Writing and Math only): June 7–June 24, Early Evening 
- Session III (All Skills): July 5–21, MTWTh, 4 hrs/day  
- Session IV (All Skills): July 25–August 11, MTWTh, 4 hrs/day 

- Online Math Program I: Starts April 4
- Online Math Program II: Starts June 6

How can I sign up?
- You will receive an invitation to an Advisement and Registration Session
  where you will register for your fall classes and also sign up to attend
  the Summer Academy Program.
- Seats are limited and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  You need to take the CUNY Assessment Test(s) by Wednesday, June 15,
  2011 to be considered for the Summer Academy Program.

I signed up—what’s next?
- FYE staff will contact you about your class assignment before the program
  starts.
- Make necessary adjustments to your summer schedule so that you can
  commit to the program. This is a short and intensive program that requires
  a lot of time and hard work in and outside the classroom.
- If you are not able to attend the program, please call (212) 237-8138 to
  cancel your registration.
